Bill Spathies served on the joint Mayor Daley's and Cook County Builder's task force. In addition, he has served as an officer of the Residential Contractors Employees Association (RCEC), which is the negotiating body of contractors and employee labor issues.

He received the Humanitarian Of the Year Award for prevention of Delinquency from the Aurora Region VII Department of Corrections, Illinois Youth Commission.
