Spathies has been responsible for helping more than 500 families purchase homes that previously seemed impossible.

He is listed as a member of the "Presidential Who's Who Among Business and Professional Achievers" for 2008-2009, and was also presented the 2009 Beautiful People Award from the Center for Employment Training.

In 1988, Spathies was the recipient of the National Historical Award for rehabbing the 150-unit HUD apartment project at 71st and Jeffrey in Chicago.

Among his other recognitions, Spathies was named the South Side Builder's Association Man of the Year 1985, which is the oldest and largest Builder's Association in Chicago. After earning this highly distinguished award, the Award has since been re-named in his honor as the South Side Builder's Association William Spathies Award. He is the only member of the South Side Builder’s Association to have been elected president for two terms. He has served as a five-time president of the Associate Builder’s Organization of Illinois.
